Since the events of September 11, and the subsequent increase in
nationalistic patriotism, some companies are beginning to make known which
of their products are made in USA. It's not that we weren't hoping they
would have a long time ago, but some companies have long been on record for
doing this, and still others distance themselves from the pack by going a
step further.
One such company is National Fruit Product Company - a privately-owned
American company best known for their White House brand apple sauce,
vinegar, and other food products. Years before September 11, their label
clearly stated, next to an American flag, that they were "U.S. Owned."
Today, the flag remains, and underneath are the words "Proud to be U.S.
Owned." And, of course, these products are made in USA as well.
But what's the difference between White House apple sauce and,
say, Mott's apple sauce? Mott's is made in USA too, but they are owned by
Cadbury Schweppes PLC, which is headquartered in England. So in the case of
White House products, Americans provide the labor and reap the gains of
American investment, but in the case of Mott's, Americans provide the labor
but the British reap the gains of foreign investment.
Let's support the companies that truly support America. White House did
so enthusiastically long before September 11 woke up a sleeping-giant
nation of patriots.
