It is not easy to write a review of Bill Gertz's "Betrayal: How the Clinton Administration Undermined American Security." On the one hand you find yourself so outraged that you tend to become incoherent in your rush to vent and express your anger. While on the other hand you feel very deeply that for everyone, of all political persuasions, the serious nature of this breach of faith is terribly important. You feel compelled to try desperately to bring all sides to the single understanding that we have indeed been deeply betrayed in a most dangerous way. Yet you know that, of all people, this president has been able to collect to his side a significant number of most willing dupes and sycophants. How do you write this review? I know that the mere mention of this will further alienate a number of readers, but the Bible does warn that evil will sometimes be visited upon us by men who have the appearance of "angels of light." Which simply means that man has the capacity for great deception as well as an equally deep desire to be deceived. Today we stand a people, a country, betrayed by our elected President, and failed of trust by so many others. Bill Gertz has presented a multitude of facts, while being hard to compile; he has nevertheless brought to the light and to the view of many. Some of those are:
These facts being known I can not help but agree with the author that " President Clinton's most important legacy will not be his serio-comic sex scandals, but his dead serious disarmament of the United States and his self-serving appeasement of powerful and determined foreign enemies. His flower-child 'can't we all just get along' approach to global power politics has left the nation weakened and vulnerable in a dangerous and hostile world."
