Once an Eagle…Stricken with a dart
“Like a duck in a noose,” was the last cryptic message the “Beltway Snipers” required the police to deliver to the American media for broadcast. Three hours later the two Islamic terrorists are captured. You haven’t heard that before? I don’t mean the message, which has been discussed and broadcast multiple times, but the part about these men being Islamic terrorist.
These men certainly fit “The Terrorist Profile” while defying every profile the authorities tried to fit to them.
The “geographic profile” for instance. Nice try, but these terrorists were developing tactics on the go, and so were not to be snared so easily.
The “lone nut” or the “lone white guy nut” profile, take your pick, was offered, but was perhaps the most off base. Unfortunately these terrorists operated as a team, one spotter and one shooter. The “lone white guy” aspect may have already been thrown overboard by Chief Moose when he asked, in one of his news conferences, for people not to single out any group for blame for the actions of a few. Although he never directly admitted to the original profiling mistake, it was obviously a misdirection that wasted much of the task forces time.
The “racist profile” was also floated, although it was a little hard to find a clear pattern from the snipers victims. Also the variant of the racist profile, the “anti-government” profile was tried. Neither lasted very long in the face of facts, nor did they have a chance of finding these terrorists.
No, the only profile that fit these killers was the “Terrorist Profile”, and the authorities have meticulously ignored that possibility…and continue to do so.
As we discover more about these two killers we are finding the usual suspects implicated. The INS had the illegal immigrant Malvo in custody and released him (the “stupid bureaucrat” profile). The Islamic religion continues to be ground zero of trouble. Yet the first reaction of every Islamic leader heard to date about the sniper has been defensive in nature. No voice of condemnation for what is a clear pattern of deep concern to the rest of America. Only claims of being misunderstood are breaking the Islamic silence on the terror stalking the world in Islam’s name.
Where do things go from here?
The authorities worry about copycat snipers, the greatest indicator yet that they still do not get it, or maybe do not want the American people to know how much they do get. Yet there are reports that the authorities are looking for one Nathaniel Osborne, a reported Jamaican, as a material witness. Hmmm…
Stories are circulating explaining the “duck in a noose” message as old Cherokee Indian folklore. And yes, that story explanation is the first thing that shows up when you do an Internet search on “duck in a noose.” But a simpler explanation of having Chief Moose make that cryptic statement could be a warning to others that “they are closing in” and to hide yourself. I guess we can wait and see how fast Mr. Osborne is “found.”
Everything about this sniper “operation” has the look and feel of what a low budget terror group would call a “Special Op.” Shoot, escape and evade seemed to be their mode of operation. Again nothing about this operation fits the traditional American criminal profile, so why not see the “duck in a noose” as a “go to cover” message for the remainder of the team?
Because unfortunately truth continues to lose as American officials remain dangerously captive to both a Politically Correct and open-borders worldview. And such a worldview will not allow them to see anything other than yet another isolated incident, or to take messages at anything other than face value. Until their worldview changes the American people will by default remain exposed targets.
We are engaged in a great “Clash of Civilizations” and we need an eyes wide-open approach. Militant Islam is a danger to the U.S., the world, and to Islam itself. While our political class maneuvers for political advantage and an “easily” winnable war against Iraq, the real war that must be fought is being ignored. Our political class remains overly confident in its ability to control events, without the least understanding of how their very policies are leading the U.S. into harms way.
Yes, they have caught two killers, but that is not the end of it. They are ignoring the terrible mixture that is brewing within our culture and leading to danger for the American people. If our political class continues in their support of open borders, complete disregard for U.S. immigration laws, and the growth of a militant Islam within our midst we will suffer more harm.
To the political elites in our nation let me offer my own cryptic message:
“So in the Libyan fable it is told
That once an eagle, stricken with a dart,
Said, when he saw the fashion of the shaft,
‘With our own feathers, not by others’ hands,
Are we now smitten.’”
