The American psychosis

By Glenn R. Jackson

They call him John Walker, the American Taliban.  In his early teens Walker immersed himself so deeply in rap music and black culture that he actually identified himself as a black American.

From there we learn he studied Malcolm X, and through that reading became interested in Islam.  Following and believing the Muslim tenets, by age 16 he left the public schools of Marin county California and, with his parents’ blessing and financial support, began his journey to Yemen and Afghanistan, and to becoming an enemy of the country and culture of his birth.

In Atlanta, Georgia in the days following the September 11th attacks on this nation, U.S. flags were flown and displayed everywhere.  At AT&T Broadband headquarters a large U.S. flag was ordered removed by the AT&T Broadband workgroup supervisor.

The reason?  The supervisor felt the U.S. flag might offend other cultures.  The worker who disclosed this episode to the press was fired for discussing the incident with the press.  The supervisor who ordered the flags removal continues to do her duty for AT&T Broadband.  The culture she claims as her own remains undisclosed.

The Governor of the state of Georgia believes that illegal migrants are indispensable to the Georgia economy and wants to grant a legal right, a Georgia driver’s license, to those violating the laws of the United States.

Meanwhile the illegal migrants have taken matters into their own hands with the ages old method of the bribe.  Five of Governor Barnes’ Department of Motor Vehicle screeners in one North Atlanta office have been suspended and two arrested for issuing driver's licenses to illegal aliens.  With the Motor Voter Registration law on the books in Georgia, you have to assume that those illegal migrants received their money’s worth with a driver’s license and a voter registration card.

 The Governor has no comment.

Feeling that they need to add real meaning to help immortalize the depiction of three white New York City firemen raising the U.S. flag over the killing fields where lay their heroic fallen comrades and countrymen, plans were made to change reality.  Instead of three white firemen they would substitute a black and a Hispanic firemen for two of the real flag raising firemen.

Apparently we all need to be reminded that we are not one people and one nation, but are many people and many nations.

Like Taliban John and his Marin county “parental units” the national identity problem among America’s cultural elites has reached crisis proportions.   Being bent double for the cause of multiculturalism is the reason for the crisis.

Cultural schizophrenia is the only outcome possible.

You cannot fly the U.S. flag because it might offend other cultures!  How many cultures are there in the U.S. today?

Like the multiplying personalities in the “Three Faces of Eve”, the cultural elites are finding so many cultures in our national psyche that it is a wonder the country can still function.

The team name of the Washington “Redskins” is offensive to the American Indians (oops, Native Americans) so it needs to be changed.  As if the Washington team would name themselves for something less than admirable.  Would you want to bet that the Washington “Wimps” was given equal time in those long ago deliberations for the team name?

No, clearly the problem is the elite’s cultural health crisis, there are just too many diverse “personalities” to keep straight these days.

Jim Carry is the only man around that could do an effective impersonation of the national psyche that we are left with by the multiculturalists.   And even Mr. Carry might find this increasing frenzy of new cultural “personalities” too many to keep up with, but it would make for some good comedy.

Momentarily stunned that one of their “personalities” would actually try to cure the schizophrenia by killing off the rest of them, the multiculturalists are feeling that it is safe to crawl out from hiding behind the “id”.  They are ready once again to assume their multiple roles.

Yet there is a glimmer of health left in the American body politic.  America still recognizes the old American personality.   Scanning the New York Times bestsellers list you will find that Americans are reading, in large numbers, a book by David McCullough on Founding Father  “John Adams” and a book by Edmund Morris on Teddy Roosevelt “Theodore Rex”.

Interestingly, a new book released in January is also showing a strong interest from the still conscious American personality.  The question is whether America’s reading interest in Pat Buchanan’s “The Death of the West” is because it is a wake-up call or an obituary?
